Yoga

What is Yoga?

Yoga is a physical, mental and spiritual practice that originated in ancient India. The word yoga is derived from the Sanskrit root yuj, meaning “to yoke,” or “to unite”. The practice aims to create union between body, mind and spirit, as well as between the individual self and universal consciousness. Such a union tends to neutralize ego-driven thoughts and behaviors, creating a sense of spiritual connection. This union through awareness between the human Self and the divine Self helps us to know and tune into our intrinsic nature. There are many definitions of Yoga, which apply to all levels of existence and awareness. Yoga is used as a therapeutic tool for physical and mental conditions, while inviting you to contemplate your spiritual nature. Yoga has been practiced for thousands of years, and while many different interpretations and styles have been developed, most tend to agree that the ultimate goal of yoga is to achieve liberation from suffering, wisdom of Self, and unity to our supreme nature which is of harmony between polarities. Yoga is the expansion of consciousness and the uncovering of truth. This practice is a tool for all to learn through and enjoy, with deep reverence to the many ancient and current teachers that share this wisdom for the healing of all beings.
