What's Ayurveda?

Ayurvedic knowledge originated in India more than 5,000 years ago and is often called the “Mother of All Healing.” In the ancient times, the rishis or sages, acquired the philosophy and science of Yoga and Ayurveda in deep meditative states. They reflected on the interconnected relationship between all nature and the universe. They realize the macrocosm and microcosm are intrinsically connected. This knowledge became fundamental to the understanding of our true essence. This is where the birth of Ayurveda and Yoga was brought forth for many years to come.
In Sanskrit, Ayurveda means “The Science of Life.” It stems from the ancient Vedic culture and was taught for many thousands of years in an oral tradition from accomplished masters to their disciples. Knowledge of Ayurveda enables one to understand how to create this balance of body, mind and consciousness according to one’s own individual constitution and how to make lifestyle changes to bring about and maintain this balance. Ayurveda identifies three basic types of energy or functional principles to be the constitutional elements that are present in everyone and everything, the Doshas are those energies at play: Vata, Pitta, and Kapha. Many factors, both internal and external, act upon us to disturb this balance of energy and are reflected as a change in one’s constitution from the balanced state. Through the principles of Ayurveda we can get our mind, body, spirit back into a balanced state with practical knowledge, tools, and rituals.
